Biomedical Engineering Application - Transfer Students

The Biomedical Engineering program is a limited-access program, meaning there are a limited number of spaces available and students must meet specific requirements in order to be admitted into the major.


Transfer students must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for admission into the BME program.

  • Accepted to USF.
  • Minimum cumulative 3.5 GPA in the prerequisite courses (best attempt) (listed here: https://www.usf.edu/engineering/bme/undergraduate/entrance-requirements.aspx);*
  • Minimum grade of C in each prerequisite course;
  • No more than two attempts allowed for the prerequisite courses (withdrawals included);
  • Completed BME departmental online application.
  • Submit an essay (more information below)

Please submit a typed essay, including your name on the document, approximately one page in length, one-inch margins, 12 pt font (Times New Roman, Calibri, or Arial), double-spaced, addressing the following questions:

  1. Discuss your short- and long-term goals and how the USF BME program will help you achieve them.
  2. If your transfer GPA falls short of the guidelines above, please explain why your application should be considered and be sure to discuss any extenuating circumstances that may have impacted your academics.
