Minimum Admission Requirements
Note: USF is now accepting Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Professional Engineers (PE) certification in lieu of the GRE for MCE, MSCE, MEVE and MSEV applicants. Applicants must obtain verification from the PE board where the certificate was obtained.
International students must meet the University’s English Language requirements through the TOEFL (> 79) or GRE (> 500 verbal) exams.
Students are also required to submit a resume, statement of purpose, and two letters of reference. These materials are all reviewed by the graduate admissions committee prior to admission to the program. In addition, doctoral students must be accepted into a research group with a Dissertation advisor in their research area of interest.
Fall admission: February 15; Spring admission: October 15. International students should consult the graduate school website.
This website provides a link to the graduate school where you can apply online. You must submit the following materials to the Graduate School and pay your graduate application fee: 1) official application and 2) official university transcripts. You should have ETS forward your official GRE scores to Graduate Admissions. Applicants whose native language is not English or who have not earned a degree in the United States must also submit TOEFL scores to the Graduate School. We suggest you follow up with the USF Graduate School to ensure everything has arrived. They will want to know your name and the “U” number you are provided when you apply. The Graduate School will provide you an email that includes contact information.
Once you have completed your online application, please send the following to the Civil & Environmental Engineering office (email@example.com): 1) a CEE department admissions intake form, 2) a brief statement of purpose, 3) a resume, 4) contact information for 2-3 references who will be requested to send letters of recommendation (do NOT have your references send these letters, we will contact them). We recommend that at least 2 of the letters come from faculty members who are familiar with you.
Accelerated (5-year) program:
USF CEE students wishing to pursue the accelerated BS/MS program must apply not later than the beginning of the senior year. The program allows students to gain some flexibility by completing both BS and master’s requirements concurrently. Students maintaining a GPA ≥ 3.3 may double count six credits of 4000 level coursework toward both degree programs. All standard entrance and graduation requirements apply. Students receiving financial aid or on research assistantships should consider the financial aid implications of this program carefully.
