Welcome to the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of South Florida! Mechanical Engineering is the broadest of engineering disciplines that offers a variety of career choices. The Mechanical Engineering Department at USF has about 350 undergraduates and 100 graduate students. In 2012-2013 we granted 120 undergraduate and 27 graduate degrees.
The Mechanical Engineering Department has 15 tenured and tenure-track faculty members. Our faculty members are committed to conducting research as a means of improving society, increasing the nation's prosperity, and maintaining up-to-date teaching instruction.
With collaboration among faculty, graduate students and undergraduates, we have achieved national and international prominence for our research and teaching efforts.
The department has eight professional society fellows, several prestigious national and university teaching award winners including the 2012 US Professor of the Year, four NSF CAREER awardees, and one NSF PECASE awardee. The annual research expenditure of the department based on external funding was over $3.5 million in 2011-2012. Sponsors include government agencies such as NSF, DOE, DOD and NASA, non-profit organizations, and also the private sector.
The Student Society of Automotive Engineers (USF Racing) designs, builds, and races Formula SAE cars.
