Welcome to the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of South Florida! Mechanical Engineering is the broadest of engineering disciplines that offers a variety of career choices. The Mechanical Engineering Department at USF has over 320 undergraduates and 88 graduate students. In 2011-2012 we granted 124 undergraduate and 31 graduate degrees.
The Mechanical Engineering Department has 16 tenured and tenure-track faculty members. Our faculty members are committed to conducting research as a means of improving society, increasing the nation's prosperity, and maintaining up-to-date teaching instruction.
With collaboration among faculty, graduate students and undergraduates, we have achieved national and international prominence for our research and teaching efforts.
The department has several professional society fellows, prestigious national and university teaching award winners, NSF CAREER awardees, and an NSF PCASE awardee. The annual research expenditure of the department based on external funding was over $3.5 million in 2011-2012. Sponsors include government agencies such as NSF, DOE, DOD and NASA, non-profit organizations, and also the private sector.
The Student Society of Automotive Engineers (USF Racing) designs, builds, and races Formula SAE cars.
