Hub in Girder Assembly |
The hub is lowered into the liquid nitrogen dewar*
The hub is taken out of the liquid nitrogen dewar after the hub reaches a temperature of below -315 F
The cold hub is being lowered into the girder hole. The hub is shrink fit into the girder to give the hub-girder assembly
Trunnion in Hub-Girder Assembly |
Heating Blankets were used to raise the temperature of the hub-girder to 200 F |
The cooled trunnion is taken out of the liquid nitrogen dewar to be shrink fit into the hub-girder assembly
At steady state, the whole trunnion-hub-girder assembly was raised to show the shrink fit. |
