Multiphase displacement of brine by CO2 is shown on the left: RED is
CO2, BLUE is BRINE, BLACK is CALCITE.
Geochemical reaction between brine, CO2 and Calcite is shown in the
animation on right.
Colormap is showing % change of Ca++ ions in brine as CO2 invades
in
the porous medium. CO2 dissolves in brine and
pH will drop, and as pH drops the Calcite will tend to dissolve and
Ca++ ions in brine will increase.
The animation on left shows the change in pH as CO2 dissolves in the
brine.
% change in Ca++ ions is shown w.r.t Ca++ ions in brine
before CO2 was injected.
Pre-injection brine was in equilibrium with Calcite.
