My name is Kristina (Krissy) Dearborn, and I am graduate student at the University of South Florida pursuing my Master’s degree in chemical engineering. I was born in Seoul, South Korea, but I have resided in the United States all of my life and have lived in Florida for the past 17 years. I am married to my wonderful husband, Andy, and we have two adorable kittens, Colby Jack and Tinkerbell. In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking, traveling, being outdoors, spending time with my family, going to Disneyworld, and sleeping. I enjoy chemical engineering because it allows me to figure out how things work and optimize the system I am working with. My current research project is to study the controlled release of drugs encapsulated in nanoparticle niosomes embedded in polymer hydrogels. The vesicles are to be deposited in brain tumor cavities in order to inhibit the further growth of malignant cells. My goals with this research are to decrease the adverse side effects caused by similar previous methods and to increase the survival time of these cancer patients.
